postheadericon Solar Panel Maintenance and Care

Solar panel maintenance is actually quite simple, and in most cases will only need to be performed a few times each year. As with anything you own, taking good care of it will certainly allow it to last longer. Fortunately, some items are easier to care for than others. The frequency of maintenance will greatly depend on the area in which you live.

Panels should be washed with a mild soap and soft brush a few times a year in order to remove any dirt build up that could effect efficiency. Since the panels are typically installed at the same angle as the roof, they do a excellent job of washing themselves each time it rains. By washing them yourself a few times each year, you clear them of any debris that was not swept off by the rain, allowing for maximum power.

When washing, be sure to inspect the solar panel cells for any cracks or damage. Things such as falling limbs can cause damage. You will also want to look for any water gathering inside the cells. Water can gather if the cells are cracked or the seals have been compromised. A silicone sealant can be used to seal up any of these spots. Do take care when performing maintenance, as this is an electrical system that could cause bodily harm if it is not treated as such.
